An NFTS Scriptwriting student has scooped the £10,000 top prize for screenwriting at the annual Arts Foundation Awards for leaders in their field.
At the star-studded award ceremony, in London, the British artist Anthony Gormley presented the first ever top Fellowship Award in Screenwriting to 2012 NFTS graduate Regina Moriarty and a runner prize of £1,000 to Orhan Boztas, who graduated in 2010.
The Arts Foundation supports and celebrates the works of young emerging artists, with annual awards to individual artists in a range of disciplines.
This is the first time that the Foundation has given an award to young screenwriters so it was a double cause for celebration that two graduates from the NFTS Screenwriting course made it to the final shortlist.
In Regina's acceptance speech she said the award would change her life and thanked NFTS Head of Screenwriting Corinne Cartier and tutor Brian Ward, who had encouraged her when her self-belief had been low.
Corinne Cartier, who attended the awards said: “The evening was hugely exciting, and Regina and Orhan represent the very best in young writing talent coming out of the course. Regina is an outstanding talent and true original voice.”
